Group Classes

Paws Down Training Service offers regularly scheduled group classes year-round. Class sizes are limited, and they fill up quickly!

Classes are held at For Dogs (251 Main Road/Rt 1A in Holden), unless otherwise noted in the class description.

Puppy We offer classes to maximize puppy socialization skills and basic manners through positive reinforcement.

Obedience We offer dog obedience instruction to pets and their owners, beginner to advanced. We also offer fun classes like Rally-O. Our approach to training is through positive reinforcement, and we work with all breeds.

Has your dog already mastered basic obedience? Ready to try something new, improve your skills, or just have some fun with your dog?

Agility Agility is a dog sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Diane is a certified Agility Instructor. We offer training for skill levels beginner through advanced in 6-week sessions. Get an introduction to the basics or prepare for competition!

K9 Nose Work teaches dogs to find and discriminate between scents. Advanced classes are available. At each new level, watch your dog excel!

Puppy

 

 

 

puppy Puppy Learn & Romp – Puppies can start this class any time from 10 to 18 weeks old. This class is designed to maximize socialization skills and basic manners. With the open enrollment you and your pup will have a chance to meet new puppies and other owners. The class will cover mouthing, chewing, housebreaking, canine body language, and problem solving. There will be plenty of off leash play, positive introductions to novel items, including footing on new textures, sounds, sights and more!

 

 

 

Rolling Enrollment – Whether you start this class with a 10-week-old puppy or an 18-week-old puppy, we ask that you do six (6) consecutive weeks. This ensures consistency with learning. Meets for 1 hour a week for 6 weeks. $105.00 Preregistration required before first class.

Obedience

 

 

 

crop 8Basic Manners – For dogs 5 months or older. Teaches basic manners such as: Off, Recall (come when called) and Walking on a Loose Leash. All classes are taught through positive reinforcement. Meets for 1 hour a week for 6 weeks.

Intermediate/Advanced Obedience – This class builds on the skills your dog has learned in Basic Manners, plus maximizes manners by learning new skills. Learning how to greet another owner who has a dog with them. Learn to work with more distractions. This class will also help prepare you and your dog for the Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog tests. Prerequisite: successful completion of Basic Manners or Instructor Permission. Meets for 1 hour a week for 5 weeks. $95.00

Rally-Obedience – This class is for handlers and their dogs that have Basic Obedience skills. Dog and handler team navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different skills and exercises the team will perform such as Sit-Down, Sit-Walk Around Your Dog, Call Front. Handlers are encouraged to talk to their dogs in a positive, upbeat manner. Meets for 1 hour per week for 5 weeks.

Therapy Dog – Prerequisite is Basic Obedience with both dog and handler having a good grasp of the basic skills. This class will discuss what it means to have a therapy dog and will have practice sessions to prepare for a Therapy Dogs test. Meets for one hour a week for 4 weeks.

Agility

 

 

 

agilityIntroduction to Agility -This class is for handlers and their dogs that have Basic Obedience skills. You and your dog will be introduced to basic agility and its equipment. Meets for 1 hour per week for 6 weeks.

Intermediate Agility – This class builds on the dogs existing agility skills and will improve distance work, handler-dog communication skills, and chaining of agility equipment. Meets for 1 hour a week for 6 weeks.

January 27th – March 3rd – Saturday 12:00 – 1:00 PM


Advanced Agility – This class builds on the dogs existing skills and helps prepare the handler and their dog for Agility Competition. Prerequisite: Introduction to Agility and Intermediate Agility or Instructor Permission. Meets for 1 hour a week for 6 weeks.

K9 Nose Work

 

 

 

nosework1Level 1 Nose Work – Come to this class and watch your dog meet their potential. In this class, dogs use their natural abilities to see and find a particular scent. They will learn how to search a room or area for that scent. Meets 1 hour a week for 6 weeks. $105.00

Level 2 Nose Work (Scent Discrimination) – Building on Level 1 nose skills, dogs in this class will search rooms and/or exterior areas to locate a specific scent. Meets 1 hour a week for 6 weeks. Prerequisite Level 1 Nose Work or Instructor Permission. $105.00

Level 3 Nose Work (On Scene Searches) – At this level, dogs will search unfamiliar areas such as a school classroom, an office, or an outbuilding. Meets 1 hour a week for 6 weeks. The first class will be held at our training facility. Please allow for travel time to sites. Prerequisite: successful completion of Level 1 and Level 2 Nose Work or Instructor Permission. $105.00
